BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

What hatchery did it come from? That can help us narrow down what it might be. It looks to me like it'll either be partridge or gold laced when grown. Could be a Partridge Rock?
Cackle, came xtra with naked necks. I'm really not in a hurry to find out unless you want to tell me it's a dark cornish ;-) I don't think it is just didn't realize they had chipmunk stripes also. Cackle is sold out of dc for the yr a couple months ago and I was wanting to get a few.

Two white giant broodies a hatching, incubator pipping and zippen, 15 nn and a mystery chick....Wow, lotsa stinky chicks.
First two out white giant white silkie crosses, almost didn't put them in, put it five and three giant polish crosses. Just didn't have enough to fill it with pure giant eggs, had room.
The two silkie giant crosses that are out both black skin, one has four toes and yellow feet, other five toes and black feet.

Is anyone raising Buckeyes? If so, how has your experience with them been?

They are my favourite breed, but I'd recommend getting them from an established, good breeder. In the US it isn't too difficult to find one, but do your homework. On this side of the border, we have a ways to go breeding up to standard, and the production side as well, but overall the have been healthy, hardy birds. Temperament-wise they have been superb overall, although a nasty rooster shows up from time to time, it's rare.

Those should be very interesting chickens, those giant/silkie crosses!

Anyone else's flock out there feasting on these cicadas? Mine are barely eating anything at all right now in the coop and not having to run off too much energy at all to forage right now due to the huge, protein rich bugs hatching out right now. Even the little chicks are snapping them up.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's not a Dark Cornish because the down color is wrong. My Dark Cornish had a lot lighter down with smaller chipmunk stripes. Based on the chick pictures on Cackle, I'm going to go with my original thought of a Partridge Rock.
