BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

The notifications, I think, depend upon your settings. I get email notifications saying something like, "So-and-so mentioned you in a comment".

Thank you for the color sexing info. I know you'd originally told me it was a female and though I'd never had reason to doubt you before, her behavior was so cockerel-like for a while that I really had to wonder. She's a very assertive little pullet and has already put all of the boys in her flock in their place. I have a feeling I'll have my hands full with this little one.

Thanks, will check settings. I had a lot of settings turned off due to being on dial up internet speed when I first signed up on byc. avatars and sigs really bogged things down.....

Have fun with that little girl! ;)

Okay, so we've finally picked who stays and goes.

Our lucky breeders for the year;

Boy #1 is my personal favorite. Currently is exhibiting the least amount of red or black leakage in the crest, and a great demeanor. He's slightly smaller than our other boys at 1lb 12oz.

Here's our second boy. I'm more fond of his body coloring, but he's exhibiting a lot of red leaks in the crest. We're keeping him purely to cross with our Wheaten pullet in hopes to get more Wheatens. He weighs 1lb 13 oz.

Funnily enough, the other two boys BOTH outweight these guys. 1lb 15oz each. I've stopped photographing them since they're eventual freezer meat, I'll continue to update on their weights and of course I'll try and show post-processing of a fully sized Sulm, since they are notoriously good as a table bird.

A bit concerned about Purple, not much gain since hatch or the previous week! Less than 100% since hatch :(

Great data! Don't forget - you may find that weight will differentiate males and females. (Once you know gender, you can compare to others of the same gender...)

Speaking of Cornish....

Hey @lpatelski ! I weighed Tubbs today. He weighed in at a whopping 12 lbs!!!!

Oh, and his three favorite girls are my tiny frizzled EEs and my buff Silkie. *Sigh* I'm just really glad he hasn't actually tried to mate wit
OMG he looks just like his DAD at that age!

132 days or almost 19 weeks

Today we harvested and filleted three more Tilapia from out aquaponics setup. Here's the largest one we've raised to date:

He measured 17-18" in length:

And over 5" in height. The thickest part of the filet was over 1.5" thick. He was almost 1 year old.

I know, it's not chicken...but it is "breeding for production".

Oh my gosh, my DH wants to do this!!! Is it easy, what is the set up, do you route the water to garden? Oh my do you have info so we can study up on it, of course we want to be as inexpensive as possible, but I am sure start up is always the hardest. Is it worth the $$

Up to you, and others may chime in, but I think it's way too early. See the graph below - the light blue line was one of the smaller chicks (male or female) - until his growth exploded. He's my main flock rooster, bigger than all the rest by 11 weeks (which is before most folks will harvest non-CX meat birds).
