Hello world! I came across a breeder of powerful game chickens, bred for combat, and decided to save them. I always admired how strong they were and how amazing and sharp their survival, foraging skills were.

On the opposite side of the spectrum is the humble silkie, which are comparatively delicate and have the survival instincts of a cardboard box. I figured with their broodiness, they'd make excellent hybrids with game chickens: Super Silkies.

Thus I am set on the journey of Mendelian breeding: I got the game rooster [Kelso] with the female silkies and the silkie rooster with the female game hens [Mel Sims, Black Jab Asil Pumpkin Husley Cross, Grey Toppy, and others] in two respective clans. I happened upon a Sussex × Silkie Cross + White Leghorn × Silkie Cross pair, so I bought them - this is my third clan.

I can't wait to engage with anyone interested in learning more. Anyone do this type of thing?

Welcome to BYC!

Planning to cross a Malay rooster with a Silkie hen in give or take 4 years. Will be a while, but I will get there.

I do know Mysterychicken has a thread on giant Silkies in which she crossed Malay with Silkies and had photo's. It's the last few pages of that thread.

That was a fascinating project your goals and thought process behind the crosses make a lot of sense.
I had love to follow along and hear how those hybrids turn out as you start seeing traits emerge.
