Hey guys!
I know that the Golden 300 is a hybrid duck made for egg production. They can be sexed by color at birth, and they do not breed true because they are a hybrid. My question is, if you breed a male 300 with a female, what do you get? Obviously the babies have to be vent sexed, but are they good layers like the mother? If anyone has done this and has pictures I would love to see them!

Yes they will still be good layers. I believe John said the offspring will only drop about 8 percent in production. I can double check the exact figure if you want but I remember for sure it was in the single digits. And if your not supplementing light to maximize production then you might not even notice the difference. How are you liking them? I was thinking on picking up a few Golden's and a few White Layers in September and see which ones I prefer.

I really like my Goldens as you can see from the avatar. I had some white layers as well, basically same temperament, size and laying abilities. I will stick with the goldens going forward because each duck has a little different coloring and I can tell them apart to give them names. The white layers I just had to call The Triplets and could never tell them apart.

Nice! Thanks for all the info!
So far we have one Golden 300 and one White Layer, and neither are laying so I can't quite tell how much I like them based on laying capabilities! They're both about to hit 5 months, so hopefully we get eggs soon. I can say they are both more timid than expected, but the white layer is more friendly than the golden. Our golden is also small, around the size of our runners but not as tall and a little big bigger. Our white layer is pretty sizeable. She doesn't seem to eat more than the rest but she is our second largest duck and is about the same size as our black swedish. Probably weighs around 6 lbs? She wouldn't make a huge feast, but I am curious if they're all this large because they would seem to be decent dual purpose birds.
