Breeding Golden 300s

Think the females are around 4.5 to 5 pounds, hope she is just a little big and not a male. Oh and most loose allot of the timidity after they start laying. I'm thinking it's a coming of age thing, but could just be their apatite gets bigger and they are just looking for handouts lol.

Yeah, she's definitely not a male! She quacks and doesn't have a drake feather. She's just big honestly! I guess she doesn't eat more feed specifically, but you never know about bugs and whatnot :lau Truth be told she's probably just a much better forager than the others so she eats a lot that way!

So true! We even have two runners, a male and a female, and our female is short for a runner and very thin. Our male is the same height but VERY large compared to her. Obviously males are bigger but he looks more like a pekin runner cross! So strange!

I really like my Goldens as you can see from the avatar. I had some white layers as well, basically same temperament, size and laying abilities. I will stick with the goldens going forward because each duck has a little different coloring and I can tell them apart to give them names. The white layers I just had to call The Triplets and could never tell them apart.

I tell my White Layers apart by size, how they hold themselves, and the amount of black on their beaks (they are 2 years old).

As far as I can tell, my 2nd gen Golden/White Layers are very good layers. Attached are pictures of the 9 ducks I hatched. In my first batch (from Metzer) I have a male of both Golden and White Layers, and 7 females (3 Golden, 4 White Layer) so the ducklings I hatched are probably a mix of all possibilities. They all sleep and live together so I no way I can tell whose is whose.

I will try to find a picture with all of them in their adult coats. Not sure if it will help because they aren't strictly a cross between just a Golden male and Golden female, but hopefully of some help.

Does your white layer had a pink or orange bill. Could she be part pekin? My whites and golden were same size and layer the same at least 6 eggs a week. Fantastic layers but poor roasters.

I was replying to Timothy, I should use the quote function on here. My Whites remained kind of pinkish as adults. When I acquired a pekin, it was very orange and very large. I got about 275 eggs a year from both Goldens and Whites with no light manipulation. Though i live near the Gulf coast.

Oh ok. I believe Timothy does not have any White Layers... he was only thinking of picking some up.
