Breeding lavender orpington with mixed breed hens?

I have a lavender orpington rooster that I just put with mixed breed hens. Most of them are black hens. I was reading some info on breeding lavender orpingtons together and both of the parents have to be lavender to produce the lavender Color. If I breed my lavender rooster with black hens, are they going to have a chance of being anything but black chicks? All I get are black chicks and I want to add more colors

In the first generation no. But in the second yes.

Note: Split show up as just black but have the lavender gene.

Probably. Your mixes might be a little harder to tell for certain because they could have other colors they are carrying but are not showing. But if you are getting mostly black chicks then it might be accurate but I'm not the most knowledgeable on this subject. And even if your hens have a hidden red gene then you would just get straw colored hens which would give you the color you want.

I’m breeding the hens to a black copper marans rooster, as that’s why I keep getting black chicks. I have some hens that are black Easter eggers and then I have some that are red. They all come out black. I was hoping by getting the lavender orpington rooster and putting him in there, it would help me get more colors.

If you have red hens you would definitely get some colors. And with Easter eggers being mixes that could have anything you could possibly get colors from them to. The chicks you would get would probably be straw colored ones, black ones carrying lavender, and possibly lavender because who knows what the EE's could be carrying.

Your lavender is just a diluted solid black bird, so you will get yet more black chicks.

So should I even try breeding him to see what colors her will produce or should I just go ahead and rehome him?

I would breed him. With Easter eggers being such a wild card you never know what you'll get.

Genetically the bird is Black. So the chicks will be black. You might get some leakage, but if you want colored birds, try adding a Blue or Splash cockerel into the breeding program.
