I guess I didn't make it clear enough but he is a cornishX crossed with something else . . . I am assuming the something else is where the red comes from. Pretty sure the Pea comb comes from the cornish in him. I was guessing the red was from some type of rock, but I'm pretty sure they have rather dominant single combs . . . I don't know your guess is as good as mine

bnentrup - he is about a year, I just got him so no idea what he looked like at 10 weeks. I'll let you know when I get his babies though!

elena712 - not exactly an ameraucana, but close! she is one of my "super layer" breeding project chicks and she does have Buff Ameraucana in her she is about 10 or 12 weeks old.

redhen - I KNOW!!! I have been doing the happy dance since I got him two days ago lol!

petrelline - you got it! I'm going to put him over my CXX's and then put the female versions of him under my big white CXX roos . . . I'M SO EXCITED!!!

pricefamilyfarms - the thing is he's that big, healthy, breeding naturally!, but I don't think he has phoenix or Jersy giant in him . . . but maybe!

I understood you saying he was CX / ? ; but you don't know his cross either ? Were you told he was half CX or a straight Cornish crossed on something ? I haven't seen a CX with a pea comb for awhile . Thats why I was looking for the other half to be a pea combed breed . The modern meaties all seem to have a very large single comb nowadays ; but I guess I haven't seen all that many because I'm just getting back into the chickens . Also , as far as I know , they are all dominate white ; which means the first generation off them should all be primarily white [ as your CX X Marans are ] . He reminds of that 32 inch tall , crossbred roo from New Mexico , Nugget , but he had a buttercup comb and feathered legs . https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=93831&p=6 . His color looks production red or NHR and most of his other features [ except the clean shanks ] lean towards a Brahma to my eyes . The frontal view of his head reminds me of a Saipan and they are very tall , but of course thats typical gamefowl as Cornish are . Whatever his pedigree , he's a monster ! I honestly don't know what's in him.
I agree with steve on the saipan look, and with chickee on th NHR color. No nothing like a buckeye, and I had rather discounted the Brahma due to no leg feathering and none of the patterning that seems to be dominant with the brahma. and I think he is just far to huge to have something like production red in him. The comb totally threw me too.
The shafts on his black tail feathers are white . . . and he is extremely docile in nature, like a show steer.
gotta go measure how tall he is tomorrow

That's a cushion comb and I can't make yours out but figured it was pea . Chanteclers are too rare for it to be likely its in your new roos family tree , but does show resemblence [ they carry Cornish in their family tree ]

I think he is just far to huge to have something like production red in him.

I probably shouldn't , but I call the RIRs many hatcheries sell production reds because they are so much smaller and lighter colored than the old RIRs used to be . TBH I can't see any difference between a NHR and a RIR coming from some .​

I'm thinking maybe CX x buff Brahma, or at least a Brahma mix, even though he appears to be clean-legged. He's certainly a beautiful roo! How old is he?

Here's a pic of a BB roo, named Papa, that I used to have. He was a wonderful roo. A gentle giant. He stayed until he died of natural causes.

I get a lot of chicks from crossbreed hens with his genes, that show that coloring, some clean legged, some feather-legged. He's been gone 2 or 3 years.

Congrats on such a gorgeous, huge bird! Does he have any problems at all from his size? Papa couldn't get up on the roosts at all, in fact I don't recall ever seeing him do even the usual short little hop-flights that chickens often do. Other than that, he was fine. His wings were tiny, compared to the rest of him, he reminded me of Baby Huey.
