Can a rooster fertilize eggs if he is young but crowing?

I'm not quite sure how old this young roo is. I was thinking 5 months old? He is crowing and one of my girls started laying and I put him in with her today he pretends to try and breed her but I dont think he knows what he is doing.

Will it take him long to figure it out?

With him being so young how long should I wait to see if he is producing fertlized eggs with my hen?

Won't take him long at all to figure out what to do...just be patient. Cracking a few eggs in a dish and looking for fertility will let you know that he knows what he is doing.

How do you do that?

With the cracked egg in a bowl, look for a small bit of white on the edge of the yolk. That's fertilized.

the white dot should be on all eggs u need to look for rings around the dot, that definately means it is fertile.

it will look like a bullseye.

Sorry, but that white is the Chalaza, one on each end of the yolk. It hold the yolk in the center of the egg. Yes look for thr bulls eye.

I checked one of my eggs today from my hen who began laying again. She has not been with a roo for about 3 months and her eggs looks fertile? Is this possible?
