I have a flock of chicks that I am thinking about breeding in the future. I live in Louisiana and in my area I couldn't find this breed (Isabella Leghorns) anywhere, but when I look them up there are people selling the hatching eggs for $10,chicks for $22 , $120 per dozen of hatching eggs.I have 10 chicks of this breed right now and I am trying to earn money for college My question is should I sell them for this much or should I bring the price down? How much should I sell them for if no one has them in my area? I am worried that they wont't sell in my area.

Hello from Louisiana, unfortunately your reputation as a breeder is probably more important than what you are actually trying to sell. Reason is quality of your birds and the only way to get that is time. Money can buy reputation or image. With that said I'd try why not. You never know. One thing I would suggest is to get at least half preferably all your money upfront. Like have them prepay for eggs or young ones. That will let you know who is serious about it. People have a tendency to want something until you have it. Like puppies everybody wants one until it's time to take one. Prepaying for eggs also guarantees the freshest hatching eggs possible. As far as chicks let's say you get 120.00 prepaid for a dozen chicks. And let's say you set 15 and 10 hatch. At a day old after they fluff up have the new owner come get them and give them back the 20.00 difference

Thank you for your insight!
