From what I have read, if you cross a Delaware hen to a barred rock roo you get a black sex link that lay good.

I have a Cockoo Maran Roo and Delaware hens so if I cross them would I get a type of black sex link that would lay a darker egg?

Any ideas or input

Thanks, Randy

Well, what I was thinking was that both Marans and Delawares carry the gene for sex-linked barring. So all the chicks would have the barring gene. If you use a Marans roo or a Marans hen (or a BR roo or a BR hen), the chicks will all have extended black as well (it is not a sex-linked gene, and it is dominant). I don't see how you could get a sex-link chick with any combination of these breeds, because one parent is always going to give the chick extended black, and both parents are going to give the chick barring. Hence, you're going to get all barred chicks. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm missing something.

Yes, now that it would do.

Yep I think I got it all backwards (oop)

Is the black sex link a barred hen to a New Hampshire roo? I think
