i read a few threads about sex links and decided to throw this out there for a few opinions. i breed heritage fowl and make my own sex links well i started my sister in the chicken raising. she bought a couple incubators but did not have enough eggs and she ask me for some.now i had a young mature rir i didnt have space for so i put him with five of my gold sexlink hens took 36 eggs to my sister to hatch out trying her incubator. 34 of 36 hatched now these were out of f1 generation hens bred to a rir so for the average person they would call that three quarter rir and one quarter riw. here it gets interesting she raised these birds up because they are off great layers. i went there today to see them now every single one has strong yellow legs and i would say nearly all the pullets were marked like the hens and the roosters were red like the brood cock with the exception of two or three pullets that look like the rir rooster. please give opinions.

What you are seeing is not a sexlinked cross, but some other (non-silver) colors bleeding through on some of the birds. While you see a trend in patterns and sexes, you might very well see the opposite trend in the next batch.

Red/gold sexlinks and RIR will make good layers, but you will not be able to sex them at hatch by down color.
