I have 4 hens and 1 Tom. They are about 1 year old. I’ve seen the Tom mate a few times with the hens, however the 44 eggs I collected and incubated were all infertile. I’m wondering if it’s because my Tom is still too young (technically he’s still a Jake) or if it’s because we have a large number of wild turkeys that strut for my girls all day everyday.

Could the hens be refusing to mate with my Tom because of the more mature male competition on the other side of the fence or is my Tom just too young and inexperienced and will eventually get it right?

Attached is the 3-4 year old wild competition.

Have you looked for a bullseye?

No bullseye. We’ve successfully hatched chickens before, but for some reason the turkeys just won’t have it. One hen is currently brooding another 20 eggs, but with the first 44 eggs being infertile I feel like she is sitting for nothing.

I don’t know what to do. I really feel the hens would rather be with the tall dark and wild stranger on the other side of their fence. :p
