breeds that wont fly away?

Khaki Campbells will fly, just not very far. Our drake once swooped in front of a red-tail hawk. I'm not sure who was more shocked us or the hawk, needless to say the hawk didn't get any of our birds that day. Overall I've seen them go about 20 feet for distance and as high as five. They mostly like to "fly-run" where they bat their wings really fast and get some serious distance on/just off the ground.

We've had ours for over a year with tonight being the first time one of them has not returned home.

Do you mean that Muscovies don't quack, or just that full-grown females Muscovies don't quack?

Check out Metzers Farm for a nice comparison.

My Mallards were raised with Pekins (in Virginia). Although they can fly, all my ducks stay right around the house.

I have baby Runners and Pekins in my porch right now. They are TOTALLY different from my batch of Pekin / Mallards. The Runner bunch are SO nervous. They run constantly - even through the pool. They don't swim like my big ducks do!

They huff, it's a nice breathy noise. The girls don't "quack" per se. It's like a really really quiet honk. They only do it when they are stressed, though. The rest of the time they are quiet.

I have rouens, and adult khakis and none of them fly. I have welsh harlequins but they are just babies so im not sure about them yet. Pekins, rouens, khaki campbells, (i think) welsh harlequins, and buffs cannot fly. I have never owned buffs or pekins but im pretty sure they cant. And khaki campbells and rouens fly like abrick im sure of that. Lol.

my runners are still so skittish as well, they are still my favorite though, as far as flying my best flyers are my black crested that i bought as cayugas. they never make it more than 10 feet across the yard. my other cayuga and pekins never have both feet off the ground

my full grown muscovy females fly all the time. They are on the roof of the house, the roof of the outbuilding......They are tree ducks in the wild.
