You might want to try looking at bantam breeds.

Some of my personal favorites are D'Uccles, Cochins, Barred Plymouth Rock bantams and Brahma bantams.

Bantam Cochins are very friendly and usually docile. I would highly recommend them.

I LOVE my bantam cochins. Very tame, very cute, and very sweet. I'd recommend them to everyone. I've got silkie chicks, and I think I may even learn to love them more than the cochins... they're darling! They should be quite small.
