Bresse Chickens

@LuvinBlueBirds

X 2. Unfortunately my first hatch is 8/12 were pullets. I wanted more cockerels to caponize. I'll keep some pullets this year to add to my flock, but I really want the bulk of them for meat. They are 7 weeks old an it is as plain as day which is which. I have four 3weekers and already it appears that I have two pullets and two cockerels.

I will try to remember to get some pics of the older ones and the younger for you to see.

@Chiquita

Have you noticed a disproportionately larger number of pullets in your Bresse hatches? I did a head count of my 16 chicks that have hatched so far and only 3 of them are cockerels! I thought the number of cockerels was a little higher initilly, but it isn't. I am going to be interested to see the numbers of the rest of my hatches. I have 40 eggs under 4 broodies right now.

Several of my hatches (of different breeds) have been more pullets than cockerels. But, the bresse even more so, I've got just ONE cockerel out of nine chicks. It was easy to tell very quickly, as his comb grew much faster and brighter colored.
