Bresse Chickens

Hi Ron, yes they were shipped. Unbeleivable development for shipped eggs. WIll have to think about who I bought them from. It is late here and my brain is almost asleep-- I'll check the BST forum tomorrow to find the seller.

On my Australorp thread a Member is calling the USPS names that mess up his shipments. It makes me sad when USPS is blamed for messing up eggs when folks are still using 1950s methods of packing. In 1950, we did not have robots moving our mail. We need to adjust with the times. USPS will still mess up shipments but that is only a percentage of the problem. If the box looks good when it gets to you door without dents and tears yet the eggs are broken, then the box was not packed correctly.

A big heavy single box of eggs packed on sawdust? Then blame USPS when the eggs are delivered broken?

Chiqitas eggs are the best shipped eggs Ive ever gotten...from CA to NY incredible fertility...the hatch ratio is horrible because i stink at incubating!! Faulty bators and such;( now another new bator going and all her bresse eggs are going strong on day 9

I hope you have a great hatch!

I bet money you bought them from juststruttin.

Those were decendant from Clovis he breeds very strong hatchers and she is a good packer.

While Just struttin packes well ( having got shipments from her) this shipment was from another source. I ad tried 3 batches of sulmtaler eggs ( 3 sources) and only 3 hatched, of which 1 survived. I'm a little stressed about spending more $$ on sulmtaler eggs.

THese eggs were from another seller, and if all goes well I will have enough to start a flock of meat birds.

Quote: THe best shipment Ihave sent out was triple boxed and the buyer reported not an aircell was out of place.

A box I received was double boxed but no packing around the eggs other than bubblewrap. HTe banging around broke an egg, which then lead to more banging around for those eggs. Several were broken, and none hatched.

Packing well takes some work. I have had shipments go well and then not . . . always trying to outwit the rigors of the USPS.

Thanks Ron. I did find some pics of bresse chicks and some are all black and some not. I did not think greenfire would have mixed up chicks anyway. Now I hope they are 2 girls and a boy, which I think they are. I'm just guessing based on wing feathers comb and leg size. Here are some pics of my bresse.

If their combs grow like white bresse, you will know soon.

The look Great!

Would it be ok to breed these guys or should I not since they are from the same breeder.
inbreeding is fine with chickens.

If you follow the line breeding chart you can breed them safely for more than 5 years before needing to get now genes. The chart shows where the new line should come in:

Got a personnel message on how I plan to line breed my Red Bantams this year. I have a bunch of mattings set up with about six females ; Two are from a partner coming and are three year old hens and will mate their daughters back to each male in a line breeding program. One time their best sons to them as they are to old to use for this chart but I will try.
Next will mate the two males from Arkansas coming and will mate them to four of my females. Got a lot of toe punching to do and wing banding this year.

This is what I think is called the old Fish Net chart from I K Fletch. Its the easiest cart that I can read and figure out. Some are very confusing. Don't get hung up with this cart if you are a beginner . Just focus on breeding for type and make simple mattings. I sometimes post stuff and beginners get freaked out thinking they have to do this this is advanced breeding 103. . This is for a more advanced breeder on his third year.

But do save this chart in your computer and one day you will figure it out if you wish to use it. BOB
