They are both Bresse.....Are they both Bresse? I haven't seen the darker down before.
I set two dozen Bresse eggs. The first batch netted me 5 chicks, one died, one has a clenched foot. Thinking the eggs were small. Fertility was good but lots died just before hatch day. Other eggs in bator were fine. Batch 2, different seller, bigger eggs, none developed. So frustrating. On the funny side, I was tending to the one chicks foot and was horrified to see it looking blue. Then the next one too! Then I remembered they were Bresse. LOL
My Bresse trio came from the same breeder that chiqita got hers from. The hens are fantastic layers and Chauvelin is definitely doing his job because fertility is almost 100%. They are strong hatchers and have been hatching on day 20. We now have several groups of young Bresse in grow out pens. The best 2 boys will be kept for breeding and several of the girls. Our plan is to hatch enough next year to provide meat for at least 2 families.Check with @Chiquita . The Bresse eggs from her flock seem to hatch nicely.
I thought their legs weren't blue at hatch......or was this a little later?I set two dozen Bresse eggs. The first batch netted me 5 chicks, one died, one has a clenched foot.
