Bresse Chickens

Gosh how many bresse do you have that go through that much greens?

The cemani and others just are on the 18% protein feed, but I still have lots of 26% protein feed left. I put a big wormwood plant in with my dp meaties they're making good work on it. Sprouted boss gets things a bit bitey with my chickens, but relatively easy to sprout.

I have 150+ chickens and another 30 or so in the brooders. So they devour everything. But I am down to 8 or so Bresse plus my Bresse/Cream Legbar crosses.

You should post the Bresse/Cream Legbar crosses at some point. I sure what to try this cross in the future.

Quote: I have quite a few of the bresse/legbar crosses. Girls are mostly white with crests. A couple have the salmon breast coloring. Legs are pretty much the same color as the bresse. Green eggs. Boys were almost indistinguishable from the pure Bresse. If you looked hard, you could find the occasional black tipped feather.

How fast does the cross bird growth compare to pure breed?

Quote: Maybe a little bit slower. I ended up with mostly hens for some reason, so not a lot of boys to compare for growth. When I processed the boys, the carcass wasn't quite as nice as the pure bresse. Legbars are mostly meant for eggs, so that isn't surprising. The girls are pretty good layers, but I expected that too, as both the bresse and legbars I have are good layers.

Would that be a Breese cockerel over Legbar pullet?

I did CL roo over Bresse hen and then let the hen brood them. Bresse hens make great broody hens.

My Breese/Cream Legbar crosses are all white (no salmon or black feathers). They all have crests.

Has anyone seen a bresse look like this? I paid full price for him from Greenfire farms. All my others seem normal. Even the earlobe is red.
