Brewers yeast

This is interesting, I knew there was brewer's yeast in my feed but I never gave it any thought. Do people feed yeast directly to chickens and ducks? Is that for B vitamins and gut flora?

How much would you feed?



A fantastic idea! Breweries must discard their yeast every few batches of beer. I've spent a lot of time in breweries and (if it's a small one) I've never met a brewer who wouldn't happily give away the old yeast. When they do get rid of it, a single 30 bbl fermenter will probably have a couple hundred pounds of yeast slurry that has to be tossed. A few really cool brewers will even share their yeast with homebrewers

There are a lot of upsides to having friends that are commercial brewers

Ducks need more niacin than feeds generally offer - the brewers yeast is used as a niacin supplement. I don't believe chickens need the extra, but I don't think it harms them either.

I get mine from Amazon as I can’t really find it anywhere else (UK) but it’s like 8-10$ here (£8)

I get mine from amazon. It is Thomas Labs: brewers yeast/garlic. Garlic= extra health booster! It is great! I got mine for $16.00(16oz). Good luck at finding what you need.

It is called ani-med or Ana-med but if you put a search in for brewers yeast animal use it will come up.

That is where I will have to get mine. I am thinking about getting the best naturals brand

You can feed your ducks old yeast from a brewery?!! How much do you feed them?

If you have access to a Whole Foods store (or similar) they have nutritional yeast in bulk bins. It's been the cheapest option I've found so far.
