I don't know much about Silkies...actually I am just learning about a bit of everything! I spend as many hours on this site as I used to spend when I was taking college classes and I am still a very beginner!!!
My first Silkies I hope will be coming Thursday. A man was going to order them for me. That said, I guess it would depend on what you want the bird for. I don't think it would ever go anywhere showing. There is always the possibility that it could pass that red comd on to every chick it produces. Look like it just doesn't have enough melanin in those red sites to make it dark.
Even though I don't show and don't ever have any intentions to do so, I think I would still let it go if I was breeding for quality chicks. If just for me and as for pets, if it is a nice bird, keep it.

Are you asking gender? I'd say roo for sure. For me, the wattles are more telling than the comb. And ESofVA is correct, a silkie comb *should* be dark and not red, BUT he looks like a cute boy Sorry...I know you were hoping hen
