bringing home a parakeet that came from the wild??

today my husband was working in the welding shop and a parakeet flew in and landed on his finger. we figure it got out of someones house and we are worried about it starving!! can parakeets make it in the wild? its getting colder so i would think we need to bring it home.i have a small dog in the house so it would be hard to let it out of the cage to socialize so im wondering if we are the best place for the lil feller. but i dont want it to stave to death either so any advise is greatly needed,thanks

You might find a bird cage at a thrift shop or Craigslist.

my son has a cage he had some sugar gliders in he says he thinks it will work for the bird. and yeah i been reding up on them i just hope we can give it the ful attn it will need
