My wife and I are bringing our chickens home soon. The coop and run are all ready to go, food and water taken care of. My question is:

What is standard procedure for bringing 4 raised hens home for the first time to get them used to their coop? They will be approx. 4 months old. Do I just put them in the coop with the door down for the whole day and night and open it in the morning to let them into the enclosed Run? I just want to make sure they properly learn what is "Home" so they return to the coop at night.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Ike

I would keep them in the coop minimum three days, preferably a week so they learn home. Ensure there is plenty of ventilation!

Some learn in a day, some take longer.

Just my thoughts.

So just to be clear you mean the 'coop' coop. Like don't let them even into the Run for 3 days?
