Bringing roosters inside at night

I had considered just putting the crate inside the coop and covering it with the moving blanket just to muffle the crow. It cannot be covered 100%, the cage nor the crow, but maybe lower the pitch. This could also provide more cover(warmth) for the colder months. Bringing them inside is not ideal, for us nor the birds. We have had tolerant neighbors thus far and I'd really like to keep it that way!

We also just re homed 5 cockerels with the last ones leaving today so it's just him and one quiet submissive Silkie cockerel left.

And I just noticed today that he does not crow as much when I am outside. But if I'm inside he crows a lot. I'm starting to think he's learned that I come out with treats for his ladies to shut him up. He's certainly not the first to figure me out.

Oh my gosh so neat and organized! I'll never show you a pic of my craft room😂

And yeah, I set them in after they've roosted for the night so it's dark and let them back out around 7:30-8 am which I think is an ok time for crowing. I hear dogs and most people are up living near schools and the U of I campus.

Don't look at the track lines, it was my first project on my new, to me, sectional beam. If you have a sectional beam and know how to not get those message me please! I am warping for baby blankets next. I am a great aunt again!
So cool! You're so much better at me at it.

Oh, gosh, I have set times to visit and treat the flock because I know when the crow is for me! And I go in and water plants, scoop poop, what-have-you without giving treats just to let everyone know I'm just there as the chicken tender, not the treat lady, so no crowing for treats. Yet it still happens.

I doubt that. I had that warp on my loom for nearly 4 years. Even moved it to our new home. Life happens and such but I finally finished it 2 weeks ago.

Yes, I've been trained once again. I had these two ISA Browns, though Lizzy was definitely the smart one of the two. She could track my movements from the kitchen window to the dining room window and would follow me calling for treats. At first I thought it was adorable. Then it got to be so annoying. I would open the door and she would come running. I would feel so bad that I'd go back in and find her a treat. I swore I'd never do that again. And honestly, I didn't. This is a crow, so completely different, right?? :idunno

Ugh, I may have gotten bamboozled again, by a bird. Lol

Hello all,

I have a question about bringing my 3 Serama chickens inside at night. The rooster, Sir Screech A Lot, crows early. While I am allowed roosters I'm my town I don't want to upset neighbors. In an attempt to curb the disturbance of early morning crows I decided to bring him and his 2 ladies inside at night. They are in a dog crate with a perch and moving blanket covering the top and 3 sides. I don't mind the crowing, which started a little later in the morning, and the neighbors should not be disturbed. Problem fixed.

My actual question is, they are in the sunroom which happens to be weaving room! I sometimes like to weave at night, usually never past 11pm, but obviously the lights are on. Will this disturb their sleep cycle too much? Not really any other space to easily put them. Maybe I can completely cover the crate while I'm up and lift it when I turn off the lights?

Any advice is appreciated! I want to keep this adorable flock of 3, good relations with my neighbors and keep weaving! Am I hoping for something unattainable?

Thanks!

The 4 years is pretty common, I'm finding 😂 I was set up with an elder in the local weaving group the month before the pandemic. Now I'm deciding on which Zoom lessons to take. Sorta like YouTube, only interactive. I'm a kinesthetic learner, like a preschooler. It's easy once I see it in person. Ugh. Hope I can manage learning by doing!

i love the crow story. We have tons of wild birds and the crows here are protective of our flock during supervised free ranging.

Now that would be cool! But I have to say I am not sure how that could be accomplished, especially during early morning.

I do most of my handspinning in the context of historical reenactment. Because we've been moving and because of Covid that's not been happening for over a year.

I have a new-to-me, antique walking wheel stored at the historic site that I've never actually spun on.
You would love my guild! We have some historical spinners and weavers that do demonstrations and reenactments. Our weaver recreates, as much as possible, the fabric for the uniforms worn! She is an amazing weaver! And we just had our annual "Natural Dye Day" for the public. But honestly, not that many people come. We all just gather at the forest preserve and talk, work on projects and dye yarn samples.

I also have to be shown. And the math/planning absolutely kills me😖 This warp was wound in October 2017 for Xmas gifts. I wove my samples and was tweaking it when my daughter's life absolutely exploded, my dog died, moved into a new house, my mentor passed (who I called for everything), started a job, my dad passed, horrible time executing his estate since the wife destroyed his will, daughter going through a year long court case (but she sent the bastard to prison!) and I think you get the point. Lol
But my 2 very close nieces decided to have babies 4 weeks apart (with one having twins!) so off with the towels and on to planning blankets. Oh, and the twins came early, no surprise. But now the other may come early and I don't even have her's planned yet! I'll be warping the loom this week for the twins though.
I hear the zoom lessons and also the programs you can download are great! I really liked Tom Knisley's and Robin Spady's workshops. And Katherin Webber is amazing with colors. Her site is Blazing Shuttles, you should look up her warps. (https://www.blazingshuttles.com/image-gallery/nggallery/blazing-shuttles/students-workshops) Sorry, I can really carry on about this so I'll shut up now🤦 hahaha
