Hello! My name is Outlaw Alice a.k.a. Tammy. I've just gotten into raising chickens. I grew up on a farm that had 30 - 40 chickens at a time, but I just want a mini flock for a million reasons. Fresh eggs (also my husbands reason as he waits for his omelets impatiently), pest control, fertilizer, but most of all - sweet family additions. I've always thought they were fun to watch. I have visions of sitting on the patio in the backyard with my girls and watching their antics.

That being said - I don't really know what I'm doing. The family that I got my chicks from is helping me tremendously, but I've been lurking a little on this forum and I can get answers and ideas here without pestering them.

I have two Easter Eggers about 4 weeks old - Wilma and Gertie (Gertrude) They are the two in my profile pic. Wilma is the lighter of the two. I also have two Rhode Island Reds about 12 weeks old - Betty and Veronica. They didn't want their pics taken considering their appearance. Typical teenage girls.

I am on a waiting list for a white Silkie and a Black Tailed Jap Bantam.

My hubby build me an adorable coop which we are dubbing "Coop de Ville." Pretty sure we stole that, but hubby owns a 51 Cadillac so he put his foot down on that. Pics will follow when I get it painted and finished.

SO Hello and nice to meet everyone!

Welcome to BYC! The Learning Center https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center is the best place to start! You will learn all sorts of important things there.
Yes! I started reading there before I even got Wilma and Gertie. I still go back and reference every now and then. There's more than I thought, but still incredibly simple so it's enjoyable.

I already learned to switch them to medicated feed. I'm going to be adding electrolytes to their water. I'm currently wondering about them eating certain insects. The little girls are hilarious. They like to get into clover patches and tear clover flowers to shreds. They have yet to go for a bumblebee, but watching them stretch their necks and scramble over each other to follow and watch bees is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Hi Tammy and welcome to BYC. It is so much fun here and everyone is so very helpful. Good luck with your girls.
