I've put in an order for a Genesis but I've had quite the time with shipping details. I still think I have time to cancel the order, should I want to. Lately I've heard the Brinsea Eco is all the rage, and it's half the price... What should I go with and why?

I really, really need to know before it's too late. Argh.

i love my Brinsea Eco 20. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is small. My first hatch I set 26 eggs some were silkies and I did not realize I had that many in it. 4 did not hatch - all eggs appeared to have been fertile. 2 died somewhere in development and 2 pipped and died in the shell- I think it was because of crowding during the hatch we opened and took some chicks out. 2nd hatch all silkies 23 eggs (12 shipped eggs- which all hatched) set 1 clear lost two along the way. all developed hatched. husband helped one out. i have 8 in now and 6 have hatched 1 is zipped and the other I broke when I brought them in. Had to take them from a broody. I left it in there just in case but I am sure it will not hatch.

I had never even been near an incubator before getting this one. I highly recomend it. If I continue incubating I am considering getting a second one not sure what brand for hatching.

There are many threads that debate the differences between these two incubators and there are many fans of each here. Did you try Cutler's Supply for the Genesis?

I have multiple Genesis incubators and despite the fact that they are "only styrofoam", they sure have been holding temperature and humidity beautifully. We've had some excellent hatches out of them. They sure hold more eggs than the Eco. I have 42 runner eggs in one of mine right now.

Truthfully, from what I've been reading here on BYC, I don't think you can lose with either of them, BUT, it is NOT half the price. Cutler's has the Genesis for $120.55 vs. $100 and I think that the difference in the price of the turners probably makes it an even cost between the two. I THINK it's $40-something for the Genesis chicken turner and $60 (on sale) for the Brinsea turner. But, those prices you'll need to double check.

Good luck!

Genesis - styrofaom 1 year warranty

Brinsea, better turning system (manual or automatic) no need to open bator turning manually.

Genesis needs to be open to turn if you do not have auto turner.

Some people on this board got 100% hatches on shipped eggs with Brinsea. It holds the temperature rock solid whoever you ask, takes only about 10-15 min to reach the temp, and if you open it, comes back withing few min without any swings or spikes.

The only disadvantage of Brinsea is it holds less eggs than Genesis if that matters to you, but at the sale price of $99.00 you can buy 2 for a few more bucks than Genesis.

I have ECO 20, it is worth every penny and more.

I also have a styrobator (LG) and it stinks.

Although Genesis is an improvement over other styrobators, it is not match for Brinsea quality and value wise.

I only used a Hova Bator once--it was borrowed. I did not have a good hatch, could not keep the temp. steady, and before the hatch was over it smelled to high heaven. I now have the Brinsea Eco 20 and I love it. Easy to clean, holds rock steady temps., easy to control humidity, and with the auto turner, no hand turning. I got 100% hatch on my first batch of shipped eggs with the Brinsea.

Our Brinsea ECO 20 arrived Wednesday, we have 16 bantam frizzle cochins in there and man we sure hope to get as good a hatch rate...

Pascopol was a great help giving us advice on the humidity and so on.

Ours had held ROCK STEADY temps so far and it just turns when it's supposed to... YEAH !!!

And not to confuse you with too many choices but Brinsea is just now coming out with a new ECO Mini Advance model that looks like it sells for about $200.00 with shipping factored in. Just being released in Britain as I write this... I think we will go with this and sell the ECO 20 to a friend here...

This unit hold fewer eggs. 7 standard, (or in our case) 12 bantam... Has the Advance set and forget features in a smaller package. For US I think it would be just right...

Hey bigmike&nan , I'm glad I helped you to make the right choice.

Seems more and more people on this board realizes the superiority of Brinsea ECO over any same price range comparable bator.

The only quality bator comparable to ECO is Lyon TX series, but the lowest price model (manual turn) is twice as much as ECO, and has smaller capacity than Brinsea ECO.

what's the difference between the brinsea econo and brinsea digital - is it only the temp display

i have the new econo 20 and it's much quieter than my old hovabator and yes, it holds amazingly steady temps - I'm on my first hatch / batch with 14 pheasant eggs and 10 peafowl eggs in it

i plan to use one of my hovabators as a hatcher, i have both a forced air and still air hovabator but they have the wafers instead of a digital thermostat. I'm thinking i could likely rewire the forced air hovabator with a digital thermostat and it be better

I'm debating on buying another brinsea just for the quiet and cleanliness and they take up less room which i like. I really don't need another and don't sell birds but an old guy like me might as well enjoy his hobbies
