Brinsea Mini Advance Incubator

Truthfully, and maybe it's beginner's luck, I don't have a hygrometer in there. I just followed the instructions like it said. Filled up half the pot and let it go. On the 19th day I filled up both pots and turned off turning. I didn't use the cool off period. 7 out of 7 eggs hatched. I'm pleased. :)

That's more or less what I do. I don't have a hygrometer, so I've just trusted that Brinsea will get it right. I have the turning set to automatic, and I've noticed it turns the eggs until the 19th day. When it stops turning them, I take the turning tray out, and put in some felt or shelf rubber paper that I've cut to fit so that they have a non-slippery surface. Fill both pots and sit back and watch. I've done many hatches, and usually get 6/7.

Glad the cap is doing the trick for you... When i said cut the surface area it doesnt have to be pretty... You could stick a crayon in the water chamber... Then top to bottom there is a crayon size spot of no water surface area ... Doesnt have to be a crayon, just has to be waterproof and cut the surface area down... You could cut a piece of pop bottle the size to slide into the chamber cutting it in half... Glue that in there and you could fill 1/2 of 1 chamber... Like i said, glad your caps workin, there are some more ideas for people

Thanks for your idea's! The toothpaste cap is doing the trick so far:) holding steady at 45 percent humidity. I apriciate the feedback. My broody hen is sitting on 10 eggs and I have the 9 in the incubator. Does anyone keep a backup incubator? Or just hope nothing goes wrong?

Well, I feel stupid.... I didn't take the time to read the manual, just the highlights, like temp, etc. So, I just took a cup of water and filled the water resivour. Reading through this thread, I realized I shouldn't have done that. Did I just ruin my hatch? Or is it ok? I'm sitting here panicking. This is my first time ever hatching.

Anyone?

What day are you on? If you're early on you could just remove some of the water with a big syringe or something. Really the critical time for humidity is during lockdown. If you're humidity is too high during incubation the air cell won't be large enough for the chick to breath while it's hatching.

Day 1, I just set them last night. How do I remove the water? Take of the lid a get a napkin and wipe it out? I don't really think it's something you could take to the sink and ump out.

Nevermind, I just took a syringe, like you suggested, and took all the water on one half out. Thank you so much! This is very new to me. Also, I have another question- The alerts the the 'bator makes, is there any way to turn them down/off? It kept waking me up in the middle of the night.

I'm not really familiar with that model. Seems there should be some instructions for doing that. If you don't have the manual just do what I do. Google the manual. Have done it on everything from refrigerators to wood heaters. Hope this helps.
