Brinsea mini advance- my first time using this bator. *update* All 6 successfully hatched!

Well. I have re-read the whole manual, and I'll be darned if I can find the part that tells what I should set the turn interval to. I see the turn angle. But if it was set at ten, and it barely jiggled the eggs, then should I tell it the eggs are larger so it'll turn them more? I set it to 15. *sigh*

I have been up half the night with my kid whose ankle hurts, so my brain is a bit fuzzy. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA, you'd think I could figure out a simple LCD display. I probably skipped over it a bunch of times in my sleep-deprived stupor.

Maybe the lack of sleep is making me grumpy. :p

Sounds like it is working now. Maybe there is a glitch in the display. If the temp is working and you are monitoring the humidity with a hygrometer, you're good to go. Just hand turn an odd number of times each day (I do 3).

I have a neighbor that uses a large metal kitchen bowl and a heat lamp to incubate eggs when she doesn't have a broody hen. Eggs are stacked and she keeps the bottom of the bowl wrapped in a large bath towel to help keep the eggs on the bottom warm. She has a 30-50% hatch rate!

Sphinx, I have 10 FBCM in it right now.

Yes it seems like things are ok now. I think I'm getting the egg turning settings figured out. I might have to search threads to see about the settings.

I know what you mean about those homemade incubators. They always impress me!

Wow, and those aren't small eggs. Do you just take the turning tray out? When I'm not doing a school hatch, I'm going to totally try that!!

Offgrid, glad that things are working with the days now. I'm not sure on the turning angle. I think I'd just experiment and watch until it seems right. I'm sorry about losing your rooster, I'd be trying to hatch his eggs too. It's funny for me to see you use :dunno. Another board I'm on has that as a code for a smilie.

Sphinx, 3 stand upright at a time. I rotate who is upright and who is laying on their side. I know it's still too soon to tell but looks like all but one are good and we are on day 6. I am not sure how things will work if I have all 10 hatch! They would be all over each other. Yes, I took out the turning tray. I haven't quite figured out how to upload a picture onto BYC yet. I could post a picture for you!

Off grid hen, I'm not sure about the angle. If you continue to have trouble I can trouble shoot with mine.

I have been playing around with it. My eggs are medium sized, to smallish "large" weight eggs. I had it at 10, it barely moved. I did a search here at BYC and bumped it to 15. That whipped the eggs about half a turn of the disc! So I have it at 12 and it seems to be working well.

I hope I didn't jostle things too much with that super high rotation! *paranoid* I candle Monday.

Well I couldn't wait til Monday to candle. I took the opportunity to candle during the cool down period. Six out of seven eggs are viable. :D I invited my sons 4-H club to come candle Next weekend around day 14.

Im glad the little uncertainty with the egg turning in the beginning didn't mess anything up.

That's great news!!

Mine are 13 days in, and when I went to the school to add water, the power button was flashing. I'll have to go check on them after school today. Hoping it was a quick power bump, and not a long standing thing. As it is, I had to toss three clears, so I'm down to four, and one of those is so dark I can't see inside to even know if it's viable.
