You know, I have never attempted to take off the skirt there or the fan base either. I too found the screws unbelievably hard to budge and also did not want to crack the case so I used canned air to blow the bits of feather out (there was not much thankfully). I wiped it with the disinfectant as best I could using Qtips and a rag and left it to dry in the sun. I suppose in a few more hatches I am going to have to attempt it though. Maybe someone who has been able to take the screws out will pop in to let us know what to watch for.Hi again fellow brinsea user -You should write a manualOk I wonder if you can help with this one- by the way did you ever register for the Brinsea newsletter? I still have not had anything . I am busy trying to clean the dome and it says "unscrew the four screws retaining the fan cover I, of course need idiot instructions. If I hold it up in the air and look into it there are 4 screws but they are so tighty and deeply inset I am wondering if I push harder I may snap something did you find it very tight? Everything else seems to wash well just this section I cant seem to get off. I could ask Brinsea about these things but its always better to find out from someone who has actually used one.![]()
