Hi everyone,

I thought I'd better sign up to a forum as there's nowhere better for instant help and advice when it comes to questions!
I'm Dani and my OH and I recently decided to keep a couple of chickens in the back garden. To 'make things easier' I ordered some eggs off ebay, from breeders with great looking hens and lots of positive feedback. 6 Sebrights, 3 Vorwerks and 3 Friesians. The Sebrights arrived yesterday, so got put in the incubator today. The other six... are causing me some concern. I'll post my concerns in the adequate forum. They arrived today about an hour ago and are currently resting.
This si the first time we're hatching eggs, so I'm rather excited! I've learnt LOTS over the past few days, between reading everything I could find on the net and buying books. It's all been fascinating. I hope to learn lots more.

If you're after a knowledge trade, I can help with most questions about breeding and keeping tropical fish. My OH and I are also in the process of building a pond in the back garden for our rather large carp (Ray - comet goldfish, Winston - ghost koi, Pete II - black goldfish & four weather loaches).

Hi Time-Out

Let me extend a warm welcome to you. I will remember who to contact about koi and fish keeping. :O)

Your chicken hatching project sounds like it will be very interesting and exciting to say the least. And your flock will be a beautiful combination. I'll be looking forward to seeing your hatchlings grow over time as you post photos here on BYC.

Thanks guys. Let's hope they hatch!

With fish, everything happens in a matter of a few days at most (once they're in the mood). Here, I've got to wait a WHOLE 8 DAYS before I'll even allow myself to candle them, then another 12 before they hatch! I'll be grey by then lol
I've told my Mum and she's really interested. She wants me to set up a webcam when they start pipping. She said I should think myself lucky I'm not waiting nine months.

You never realise how much following a hobby has until you start looking into it. My OH had never kept fish before he met me, and now I giggle inside when I hear him chatting to his friends (who he never knew had fish) about the best way to keep such-and-such species or whether the xxx filter is worth the price tag. I'm realising the same goes for poultry, not to mention the number of species there are! It took forever to come up with a short list for the garden.
