Hey all. New to this forum and found it when looking for help with my peafowls.
I´m from Finland ( try to understand my English) and peafowls are not very common pet here. I do also have chickens but finding vet who can help with problems, is not easy if not living on our capital.
Shortly. Bought my 2 peafowls somehow year ago and they were 1 year old. Male and female. On may this year noticed female was not being well. When i searched info and talked with other peafowl owners, we thought there is problem with laying egg. Posture from female looked like ones posted when all is not going as supposed when laying egg. Went to vet and they told me at once they are maybe not able to help since not so aware with birds. They took blood samples , all was OK, x-ray and gave some fluids ,antibiotic and painkillers. No egg, pieces of eggshell or anything. Near gizzard some rock type objects (looked as hard as rock).
The bird died overnight. I got new female , almost 2 years old. Now she died suddenly. My friend opened it since i could not. She said all looked and felt normal except gizzard. It was like overfull, felt rock-hard and had growth attached to it looking like little egg. She opened it and it had rocks and food in it but when opened it was not like muscular soft to touch but some parts were hard.
My male is doing fine other than missing his partner and no symptoms. So finally to my question. Is there known problems with peafowl gizzard? things that may cause death according its working and things i may have not seen or considered? or do you think its just unfortunate thing that happened to my both females? Like to hear your thoughts about this all and gladly try to give you more info if you have questions.
