hey guys I have access to the Sire Lines of commercial broilers. I was able to get my hand on a 2 weeks old cockerel, this birds are what you call leaky whites, one of their parents its white and the other parent its barred and you can see where the heterozygous dominant white it leaking(you can see barring on those spots).. I´ll feed restrict him so he can grow to 6 months old.. I´ll try to breed him to my large cochin hen

what's the bone to meat ratio? They might be big and heavy... but they're tall and lanky at the same time.

this is why they would make a good cross. They have a very sturdy fram to support the amount of meat they will put on with this sire!


Is there any chance you would have access to a delaware. They would make a great cross. I would hatch out a bunch and select for whatever you are looking for. Keep two separate lines of these and then recross later. You could make some very great self sufficient broilers and/or dual purpose birds. They may have to be feed restricted. Actually, the " breeder quality Cornish" chicks you have offered to sell on the Illinois thread are sired by birds that are part Cochin. The two males you used from Big Medicine's crosses started as an accidental mating of a White Cornish and Silver Laced Cochin, with Light Brahma and then Blue Laced Red Wyandotte being bred into his mix before a clean legged offspring was used as a cross to Cornish again.

I have cochin crossed with barred rocks and they are HUGE at 14 weeks. I don't own a food scale, but here is a comparison picture with father (barred rock) and one of the boys.

So I don't see why anyone would think Cochins would be small?

Their mother is anything BUT small lol. She is short and plump. Heaviest chicken I own.
