It's awful. This summer has been hot and I lost 2 laying hens, which has me down to 4/5 layers at the moment, 1 a bantam. I just had one go broody for a short time, but she's not back laying yet. I'm averaging 2 eggs a day. Somedays I get zero eggs. One of my 5 layers lays an inedible egg(calcium deposits in egg white). I do have 3 that were born in the first week of March, so 2 should lay at anytime. Both are showing laying signs. I have 3 more babies and and incubator full of eggs. I'm praying for a successful hatch.
Has anyone else resorted to store bought eggs? There was a farm nearby with over 150 hens, but foreclosed and no longer sells eggs. Bummer.
We go through a minimum of 2 dozen a week, sometimes more. Hopefully adding more to my flock will help.
