Hi... I have a toulouse gosling about 12 weeks old. The mom and the babies were trying to eat the horses food. He got irritated and stomped, then 1 of the babies came running out of the stalls squawking like crazy. Now it can't stand up. We can't feel any broken bones but it seems like its the ankle thats the problem. It is in a dog crate with food and water. It is eating and drinking. Does anyone have any idea what to do????
Thank you for your time,
Ally

Hi Ally. You can try to bind the ankle with vetwrap. You may be able to find it at your local feed store or any vet's office should sell you a roll of it. It is a great tape for such an injury. You will want to wrap it gently, not too tight. Only change it when absolutely nec. (Dirty, wet) Leave it on for at least a week. Check the foot for any discoloration, coldness. That will let you know if it is too tight. Keep it isolated and in a small enclosure so that it can rest its foot. Make sure it keeps eating and drinking for you. Offer treats. Scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc.
Good luck and sorry this happened to the baby.

I agree with chickensioux. Make a splint for the leg-i used 2 toothpicks rimmed to size and some vetwrap i stole from my equine First aid kit, and put my chick on basic bedrest-shoebox sized area with loads of food and H2O when my chick couldnt walk and had a swollen leg. It turned out fine after about a week and a half and is now a happy 3 month old!

Thank you guys so much. I have vet wrap in my horse first aid box. I'm gonna go outside and wrap his (I think its a he) right now. I'll keep you guys updated.

Thanx again!

Update...
I put 2 popsicle sticks on either side of his leg and wrapped it with vet wrap. His leg is pretty swollen. It has a little scab on it but I think its fine. He seems to put more weight on it now. He's on the front porch (cement so he has traction) with a dog fence around him, so he can touch his momma and his sisters. They are guarding him from the other birds and dogs (they are just looking to see if he's ok, but momma doesn't like it). He is also eating and drinking A LOT!
