Broken beak after attack

Her eye opened up. It seems to be fairly decent!!! Her tounge is intact but she only drinks out of a syringe still. The thigh wound is healing good

Ok,Baby has no top beak. Hand feeding her, but, she only takes liquid. Feeding suggestions? I don't have any extra hands to tube feed and long term it seems harsh. She is healing great and has a lot of spunk.

I’m so sorry this happened to Baby. But what a trooper and she is so lucky to have you! You’re doing so great with her.
I don’t have much more advice for you than what the most wonderfully smart people here have already given but my heart melted when I saw her and I would like to offer support and encouragement and follow her story.

Does she seem interested in other foods? Wetting her feed down into a mash comes to mind if she could scoop it? If you’re worried she’s too wiggly to tube feed, you could wrap her in a towel and try.

Tube feeding will be the quickest way, there's a lot of videos out there on youtube and threads here on BYC dealing with tubing too. I linked a video of one of the educators Kathy (@casportpony) showing how to tube.

Another option is to Torpedo feed, this is still hand feeding, but may go a bit quicker/easier.

Hopefully in time, as she heals more, she will be able to learn to scoop feed with the lower beak and eat on her own.

Thank you for the help. I really cannot thank you enough, this girl is special and I want her to to overcome this horrible injury. I have never seen such a strong willed chicken.

I guess cake wouldn't be the most healthy option but, I know it goes straight to my hind end! Any thoughts I don't want to over feed or be under feeding her.

I'd use chick starter as the feed, this is usually 18-20% protein, coupled with mixing egg in there per Torpedo instructions, she'll be getting some good nutrients.

I think with Torpedo feeding, you'll have to go more by feel of the fill of the crop. She does also need fluids, so you'll have to play with the amount you feed her along with how much fluids to tube/syringe into her.

It may be that you need to feed her several times a day instead of just a couple(?) I really don't know for sure.

She is still passing runny stools and her crop doesn't seem to empty fully but that may be just me not sure yet. I am winging it for sure! I give her a few bites and half a syringe of water. I feed her 3 times a day sometimes more depending on how much she gets in her crop. I make sure it feels full but it does feel squishy not hard. I guess I will hopefully figure it out trial and error. She is still alert and feisty and almost out of molt.
