This is cross posted. I wasn’t sure where to post and I’m feeling very defeated right now.
It’s a long story but here’s the short version. We have new chicks. 7 chicks to 3 broody hens. Today, one of the hens attacked her chicks. We aren’t sure which hen, but we have an idea, no proof ) She killed one, another is completely missing (small enclosed brooder separated inside the coop - so…did they eat it?) and a third is missing her top beak.
We have separated the chicks from the hens now. What do I do for the chick with no top beak? I’ve heard they grow back but I’ve also heard it’s painful. Are there pain meds for - chicks? Do I clean it? It’s bloody. The other chicks do not peck at her currently. They are 3 days old.
