Hi all,
Earlier this afternoon, I was cuddling with one of my hens (Vicky) during free-range time when I noticed a crack in her beak. There was a chunk of beak sort of hanging next to the crack, but it was still attached. She seemed to be otherwise normal.
I've attached a few pictures of the beak (although it might not be very easy to judge the injury from the pictures, as she was moving around a lot when I took them). I have not touched the beak in an attempt to not injure her. For your information, only one other chicken in the flock of eight pecks her at all in the current pecking order. Vicky pecks the other six.
Is there anything I can do to help her? Is she in immense pain? Will she be okay? Thank you.
P.S. She has some blood on her crown in these pictures. All eight of my chickens have had blood on their crowns for the last several weeks. Is it from pecking? Does it look severe?
