I have a three week old chick that showed up with a leg broken near the shoulder. The break is so bad the leg is limp, and because of the position of the break, a splint is useless.
As the baby hopped around trying to keep up with its mother it kept dragging the leg. I and my sister folded the leg to the chest and bound it there to prevent the leg from jiggling and catching on things.
I moved the chick and its mom and sibling to a pen with a cage for them to sleep in at night located inside this large pen. The chick is getting around surprisingly well, it is eating and drinking and even hopping in and out of the meeting cage to forage in the grass with its family.
has anyone had experience with this sort of break? Any other methods of trying to imobilize a break right below the shoulder?
