I did something similar. I bought a horse once with a repaired leg and it looked like the original owner drilled a small hole in each end of the break and inserted a thick, bendable piece of wire, THEN they glued the leg together and that leg held up perfectly forever. The last time I had a Breyer break it's leg, I had my husband help me repair it this way and I'm very happy with the repair. I used the thick wire again. I think a toothpick might break.
The ones I tried repairing with all manner and types of glues never held up long term, especially if she will continue to play with her horse. I'd seriously consider adding this step to your repair process.
My DD has my collection of Breyers from my childhood, plus she has new ones. I have found the new ones seem to break much easier than the older ones. The ones she has broke we have repaired with super glue then they go to "pasture" (up on her shelf). She has learned to be more careful with them now. Putting a pin in the leg to repair is an awesome idea,..I will remember that next time.
