Today I noticed that our sweet Mary had chipped her beak. I’m pretty sure it happened today...I heard what I thought was fighting and by the time I ran outside, everyone was clucking around like normal. Maybe she got her beak stuck in the hardware cloth? Idk.
I hand fed her some treats and she ate fine...then she went back to foraging. I didn’t see her use the nipple waterer so I added a pail of water just in case. Everyone tried it out and when it was her turn, she didn’t tilt her head back to swallow like the others did. She stuck her beak in then shook her head.
I can’t watch her all day to ensure she’s drinking, but we’re still in the low 90’s so I’m worried about her getting dehydrated. Are there early symptoms of dehydration to watch for? If she’s acting fine can I assume she’ll figure out her new temporary “normal”?
Also do I need to do anything or just wait for her beak to grow back out? How long will it take to regrow? TIA!
