Hi,
One of my chicken’s claw was broken yesterday so I cleaned her foot, stopped the blood, and bandaged with some antibiotics ointment. I locked her at chicken hospital but she screamed to go out today morning for laying an egg, so I let her out. She is limping a bit and didn’t move much as she did before but she is still eating and drinking well.

My concern is that her injured foot is a bit swollen. Will it go down naturally by couple of days? or are there any possibilities that I bandaged her foot too tight?

If she is getting around and eating/drinking without others picking on her it is probably okay, but it would be helpful to have a picture if you are able to get one. You'll want to monitor the wound regularly to make sure she is improving and be ready to isolate her again if it gets worse/isn't improving.

thank you. I will take a photo tmr. no one is actually picking on her but they all seemed to worry and try to keep her a company thankfully.

in case to help anyone who are in similar situations, the swollen got worse on the next day, with blisters. but my girl is something, she popped the blisters by herself. ugh 🤦‍♀️ so I re-soaked her, sprayed veterycin, and antibiotic cream, loosely bandaged her leg with cotton pad. it’s been more than a week now and she’s fully recovered. i guess the infection was very mild it went away naturally. but I still need to keep the bandage on her feet until the nail grows back. also, i do think i bandaged her a bit tight on the first day, because her leg turned grayish. the leg color came back once I unwrapped her. so yeah... i learned my lesson.
i wasn’t able to take photos since she decided to runaway every time I catches her, and I only have two hands so... 😩

I'm glad she made a full recovery!

Actually her feet is now a bit swollen again. I guess the infection didn’t go away. Here are some photos I took today.
I see that black thing is the infection but i don’t know how to treat this. I do soak her feet and spray veterycin but I don’t know what else I can do. she’s not limping or hesitate to go higher area and runs for treats and food. will this heal by itself eventually if I just keep doing what I do? the swelling seems like it doesn’t get worse but i don’t see improvement either :(

It looks painful and injured, but not infected. I would watch it, and continue to treat it with some betadine or chlorhexidene. Limiting her activity may help the swelling go down, but time is needed. Is the nail firmly attached or just hanging?

yes, the nail is firmly attached. I’ll start treat her with things that you mentioned. Thank you so much. She’s so energetic it’s so hard to cage her cause she moves even more in the cage. yikes. but definitely will keep an eye on her
