Ok good. I figured as much because usually if an egg breaks they go cookoo for coco puffs which is why I thought it was strange. I actually tossed what was left of it out of the coop and they started fighting over itI personally wouldn't worry about it unless there's a pattern...and I agree, one broken egg could just be an accident.
It's always disappointing to find a gooey mess like that all over the other eggs in the nest box, though.
If its a soft shell its usually fair game. But hard shells they usually leave alone until I drop them which has only happened twice lol. Since then I made a basket to carry them in. My pockets just aren't suitableIt's good that they wait to be given a broken egg, rather than helping themselves.
Basket is definitely the way to go!
Had this happen. It smashed against my phone. I didn't notice it until I put my hand in my pocket.Egg in a jacket pocket = smashed egg for me.
