I was checking under my broody hen and one of the eggs dropped and cracked. It is dinted and cracked but no yolk is leaking out. The eggs are about day 16 and this one has developed. Is there anything I can do to help it? I have started up the incubator in case I need to move to there. Any tips, I’m urgent!

I had something similar happen a few years back when diy incubating some eggs... the heat lamp fell on the egg and cracked it. My best advice is wash/sanitize your hands and the area around the egg. Candle if possible to see if there's any movement. Then take a candle and drop the melted wax along the crack/hole area... it might help- you need to keep bacteria away from the egg or from entering the egg... it'll kill the embryo. Best of luck and prayers!

I accidentally cracked one of my eggs when I was incubating silkie eggs. So carefully dripped some wax on to the crack And it made it when. unfortunatly non of the eggs made it due to a faulty incubater.

Carefully put clear nail polish over the cracks. Hopefully it is oaky. I might move it to the bator just so you can control bacteria exposure a little more, thats what I would be worried about. Where on the egg are the cracks?
Thankyou! The cracks are around the middle and near where the chick would pip, I’m hoping it will be able to get though the nail polish. My bator isn’t warm yet but I’m worried my hen might increase the crack if I leave it under there for to long. Is there any alternatives or should I just wait a few more hours for it to heat up?

Thanks I’m hoping for the best! Bacteria is my main worry, fingers crossed 🤞

How long will it take to heat up? Some let eggs cool on purpose when incubating to simulate being under momma. Thats only for about 15 minutes though. Could you put it in the bator with a heating pad until it was warm?
Or, I saw a thread about someone incubating in their bra a while back..... Maybe you can do that temporarily? :p

So sorry about your eggs! This one is a silkie egg too and I’m pretty keen to see these guys hatch. I already lost one to the dogs a few days ago, so I was pretty gutted when this happened aswell.
