Found my almost one year old buff outside with and egg stuck to her chest and a broken one stuck to her tummy. she started sitting 8/5. we washed her and the egg and returned it to the nest. the nest is smelly and we washed her other eggs too. should we wash the nest box and put fresh bedding in and or move them to another box? will she go back to sit? she is the only one sitting amongest 7 hens. her chest area is not raw but irritated so i was going to put cornstarch on her after she dries. this is our first time...can you tell?

maybe wash it, or get a new one. im not sure tho. :[
but if you do clean it or change the box, and she dont sit, i would throw them in an incubator

I would clean out the nest box and then put the eggs back in it with her. If she quits sitting then incubate.

Thanks very much for the information:) I don't have an incubator but will think about that.

You CANNOT wash the eggs!!! you must leave the eggs alone andshe will hatch them if she is broodie enough. I have a Buff who is broodie (she is an Orpington, as shown \\/ down after the linie thing) she would hatch all my OTHER hen's eggs if she could.

I think that very gently cleansing or even very very gentle sandpapering is necessary if the egg is filthy to take the worst off......also yes clean the nest and change the bedding.....tend to the hen - all as quickly as possible and then return her to the nest....maybe if possible contain her in it in some way.....I really hope she stays on the egg/s for you.

Good luck

I don't think that's good those eggs that your hen have sitting in being wash??
i think the eggs won't ( i'm sorry you already know what i'm going to type) didn't want you to sad of course.
