Update on our broody turkey: She is laying on them, but... there are two broken eggs outside in the run. They are completely separate from the nest, I couldn't check if there were any broken in the nest itself, but the day before, (she was not laying on them yet), they were all fine. Any experiences or just straight facts about this? My only guesses right now is that she got to the number she wanted and decided he didn't want these ones, or, the tom got jealous. Speaking of, I don't remember who suggested we separate the nest, we are working on that right now. Updates coming, I don't care if they are unwanted, I am excited about these damn turkeys. :)

The hen will remove broken eggs from the nest. The broken eggs are from two possible sources.

1. Unwanted breeding attempts by the tom. The hen will resist, the tom will slip off, at the least, broken eggs will be the results.

2. A predator has found the nest and is stealing eggs. I have had skunks go right up to a hen on a nest and reach under her for the eggs.
