You can also tape some brown paper bags (from a grocery store) or something similar around the bottom of your cage to help keep the shavings inside and not all over the house. (less cleaning up)

An update on Eva. Her broken leg seems to have healed a bit. She can't use it but has learned to balance on the good leg. She is able to get up and down to the nesting area, is eating well and is laying again. The eggs are a different shape, a bit tapered all in all she has recovered very well. Many thanks for all the suggestions.
