well went out to bring the girls in and one was allready out so got some grain and she came running. while i was checking them over for injuries i discovered that my dairy doe has broken off the the outside of her horns tips off. she is a saanen/alpine doe about 4 months old now i think
she is in with a supposed 3 month old pygmy i say supposed because she is just now getting horn buds but thats another story. their out door pen is made out of mostly chainlink fencing with field fencing as a gate. there are some cinder blocks in there for them to play king of the hill on and also 6 chickens whom the goats think its fun to chase and make fly.

what do i do? is this going to hurt her? is she lacking something that is making her horns weak? she get some goat grain everyday horse quality timothy hay to keep her occupied in the day and then is let forage broadleaf in the outdoor pen. thanks

My goats also shed the outside of their horns. While yours is a little deeper, as long as they aren't pierced, I think it's ok. I'm sure you know that they are hollow and are part of their sinuses. They like to rub on a lot of things.

No need to worry!

well thats good to know i was freaking out i had noticed that she was rubbing her horns a little but not enough to do that.

The horns on your goat are fine. Personally I hate horns. My goats would get them caught in the fence and if you didn't find them in time they would be dead. We just dehorned and disbudded them all.

going to dehorn them this fall was told that it will be better after the flies die off plus i would like to do them both at once and like i said my pygmy is just starting to get horns so it will be a while before she has horns big enough to band and i dont know anyone with a disbudder or i would have her done
