Having 12 birds that are larger than the bird pictured (which was taken weeks ago) in a box the size you mentioned is a problem. The bigger ones yes
No not all were that big several were smaller than that much smaller this is them right now the survivorsHaving 12 birds that are larger than the bird pictured (which was taken weeks ago) in a box the size you mentioned is a problem.
Can you post a picture of the box?
The box is way too small for that many birds and I agree...there is zero ventilation which is what killed them.No not all were that big several were smaller than that much smaller this is them right now the survivors
I’m so sorry I am in such heaving sobs right now I’m so sad I do realize now it was much too small and should have had much more ventilationI'm very sorry for your losses. I can understand why you are upset.
I think the box was too small, with not enough ventilation for the amount of chickens you had in there. CX run hot with very fast metabolisms. Their bodies are under a lot of stress by the time they get close to butcher age, as your's were.
I would suspect either heart attacks, or possibly some other issue with the amount of heat and ammonia being generated by so many birds and their droppings in a confined space.
I'm glad you are getting a bigger coop next go around. If you ask around on the meat bird forum, there are a lot of people that can help you different housing set-ups for CX.
Thank you Kiki. The box is way too small for that many birds and I agree...there is zero ventilation which is what killed them.
You got lucky. Also what did you feed previous batches? Have they all been on layer? They really should be on meat bird feed or at least all flock/flockraiser typeThank you Kiki.I know I’m still learning but I’m incredibly sad. This didn’t happen with previous batches
