Broken nails

Just got my austrolorp hen she is about a year old. Her toe nails were covered in balls of poop. When I was removing the clumps from her toes I noticed blood. Well one of her nails fell off. And her nails are problem an inch long. If I leave her nail to heal on its own is it possible that it will become infected? And can I trim her nails?

It should heal up fine. Trim chicken nails just like dog nails.
