I will try to post photos later, but here is the situation: I have a 5-6 week old chick that broke her wing. When I found her, she was barely responsive and shivvering, so I held her against me all morning to warm her up. Her one wing was broken... mangled. I had had them in a dog or rabbit cage and I'm guessing she got her wing out of the spaces in the cage just so that she mangled her wing.

Forgive my lack of correct aviary anatomy terms... but her "hand" part was mangled bad enough that I just clipped it off without any stress to her. Later that day, she started sitting up and drank and ate. I carried her around for two days to keep her warm and protected from the others. I debated amputating the rest of her "forearm" because there are two bones that are exposed (radius and ulna?) but there is enough healthy tissue around it that I'm afraid it would hurt her or cut in the wrong place. I've never taken a chicken to a vet, but I've never really had occasion to. She has integrated back in with her buddies (in a proven chicken-safe coop this time) but I guess I was just fishing for opinions on treatment options. Any ideas?
