Brooder addition ideas?

Since it looks like we will not be able to find a retirement home for our two Red Stars who have stopped laying, I am looking at the option of adding a temporary extension to our coop (see photo for my idea). The extension would be home to four pullets. The divider between the main coop and the extension would be hardware cloth so the birds can see each other and when they move in to the main coop, the drama will be kept to a minimum.

I don't have room to build a stand alone retirement home for the two Red Stars so I have to make due with what limited space I have.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I live in the desert Southwest so we have pretty warm summers and semi-cold winters...hence the well-ventilated coop.
